Project 365 - Day 34

Day 34 - February 3

Tonight we went to Animal Kingdom Lodge at Disney to have dinner with Jane and Ron, Santa's sister and her husband. We went about an hour early so I could take pictures - and look how close I got to the giraffes! This is a "savanna" behind the hotel - I'd say that's a pretty loose usage of the term since they've hung up a bucket of something tasty that the giraffes are eating in this picture, not like they just wandered up of their own volition. Plus this is 15 minutes from our house - but that's pretty cool, actually, that we live so close to giraffes and elephants! Nevertheless, I got to see them very close up, and it was wonderful. The guy in the foreground is a Roan antelope. I know this because there were signs identifying the animals, not because I'm some sort of zoology specialist...LOL!

We had a lovely dinner at Boma, which serves African food buffet-style. It was really good - and the deserts were to-die-for! I always love it when Santa and his sister get together, because she talks about stuff that happened when they were growing up that Santa doesn't remember, so I get to learn lots of new things.

The only down side to the meal was that the hosts and/or hostesses would start playing these VERY VERY VERY LOUD drums at the most random times - we were seated at the back of the restaurant, and when they started playing we couldn't hear a word anyone else was saying. When we were leaving, there was a group of young women with 2 playing drums and 5 other ones dancing to the beat - they appeared to be African women probably here on Disney's college program, but hopefully they don't play drums like that during dinner in Africa. They did dance a bit with 2 little girls, so maybe there was a small redeeming value in what they were doing.

I don't mean to make it sound like we had a bad time, because we certainly didn't - it was just wonderful to get to see Ron and Jane, and can't wait to do it again.

Peace and love to everyone!
